As a fat woman, Jan is very sensitive to other people’s perceptions of what she should, or in this case, shouldn’t be eating. She assumes the candy is frowned upon, so she automatically tries to hide it.

What did End Of Watch mean at Steve’s funeral?

End of watch is a last call over the official radio band for an officer or fireman who dies in the line of duty, which is observed by many police and fire departments. Actual wording will vary based on the department.

How did Scott forgive his ex-wife, Tammy, so easily?

Scott hated Tammy for many years after their split and the only person he was hurting by that anger was himself. Once he started facing the destruction that it was causing in his life, he had no choice but to come to terms with those emotions. Hearing her side of the situation and realizing that it wasn’t ever about him, Scott got what he needed to move on.

How did Jan know the phrase “fuck ’em and leave ’em” when she uses it in the hotel room?

While it wasn’t included in the story, Shelley told Jan about it after she heard Brian (aka Carl) mention it.

Would Scott have killed the man who shot Jan, if he’d had the opportunity?

No. Obviously, Scott was furious but his talk of killing the perpetrator was just that, talk.
