If you missed the previous spoiler message, I’m telling you again. THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
While creating A Will of Her Own, I used the pictures as inspiration for my character’s outfits. I took dramatic license and made changes that may or may not be possible (I’m not a seamstress). Also, my characters look fabulous in these clothes, whether they would actually fit their body shape and size, or not.
Note: If you know the designer’s name on any uncredited photos, please let me know and I’ll give them the recognition they richly deserve.
Sarah – The color of Sarah’s outfits are symbolic. White, ivory, and cream represent Sarah, while blue represents Max. Because of this, most of her outfits are a combination of those colors. The addition of blue to her living space also represents her growing feelings for Max.
The other men in her life are also represented. Will’s color is red, since he stirred the lustful side of Sarah. William’s colors are beige, tan, and brown (so sorry, William!), only because their relationship is very blah.

New Year’s Dress
I have no idea how much this beautiful dress actually costs or if it’s made of silk. It needed to be expensive, so I made it $3,000.

Art Show/Pre-Awards Party
We’re all disappointed in Sarah for using this dress as a towel, then throwing it across the room.

Movie Premiere (Death of a Love Story)
I picked this dress because it has a blue (Max) overlay but the underdress is beige-gold (William). The colors seem to be fighting. Sarah isn’t really represented here.

Animal Shelter Benefit
When I saw this dress, I immediately thought it would speak to both Sarah and Jen. I made one change to this in my mind—solid black top, not lacy or embellished. I also added a keyhole opening in the back as a plot device. Color-wise, I thought the black was fitting since she’s in mourning, while there are splashes of blue (Max), red (Will), and a very small amount of cream (a diminished Sarah).

Will’s Wedding
This is the dress Sarah wore to Will and Amelia’s wedding in Scotland. She had hoped to wear it to her own. Note it is almost pure blue with a slight amount of white on the skirt overlay.
Will is not represented in her outfit because she no longer has feelings, other than friendship, towards him.

Wedding Gown
This is Sarah’s untraditional wedding gown picked out by Will. It was perfect because it was equal parts blue (Max) and ivory (Sarah). Also, the ivory lace overlay has movement and expression. Note that the buttons are light blue.

Awards Show
Sarah’s haute couture gown is pure ivory. While she shared the moment and the award with Max, I thought it was important that this was a personal accomplishment that she embraced in her own right. However, once they’re in their home, she changes into the silk blue and white dress.

Wedding Earrings
These are the earrings Max gave to Sarah on their wedding day. Again a mixture of cream and blue.

Wedding Ring
The color of the center stone isn’t exactly what I envisioned and this probably isn’t a blue diamond, but otherwise it’s perfect.
I didn’t have an inspirational picture for the original engagement ring. Just imagine something very large and ultra expensive.
Max – Throughout most of the book, Max is very casual – a blue jeans and t-shirts kind of man. It’s one of the things about him that attracted Sarah. He didn’t act the part of movie star when he wasn’t working. He did get dressed up a few times in the book, though.

Tuxedo
The man is a movie star and he wears it well.

Suit
Sarah prefers Max in a normal suit since she isn’t reminded of his celebrity status—he’s hers.
Will – He wears various outfits in the book, but only one that matters.

The Kilt and Leather Jacket
Enough said (swoon)!
